Why Port Alfred ?
Statistics prove that this coastal area has more days of sunshine days
than any other part of South Africa. It has a wonderful climate.
A bustling holiday resort in summer and the ideal retreat in
winter. Port Alfred is embraced by the warm Indian ocean.
Port Alfred, as a
destination, is a must for all those travelling along the coast. Port
Alfred is situated on a scenic coastline and surrounded by spectacular
beaches. The Coastline is a series of dune where one can walk for
hours on end. The town itself nestles on the bank of the Kowie river
and provides tourists with many things to do. The Kowie River
dominates the town 29km to the Indian ocean. Most of the river is
navigable by boat, making it one of the longest tidal rivers in
South Africa. The river offers a great venue for boating, skiing and
cruises.
We encourage our guests to
make Port Alfred their base as we are ideally situated for short day
trips. Truly the best of two worlds. Situated at the coast and yet a
stone’s throw away from Addo Elephant Park, Shamwari Game Reserve
and numerous private game reserves dotted around the area – all
which are malaria free.
Port Alfred is steeped in
history having been the landing place of the 1820 Settlers.
Port Alfred is also a
popular destinations for golfers. Golf enthusiasts can choose from two
reputable courses, namely the prestigious Royal Alfred Golf Club,
where it is a common sight to see wildlife roam the golf course and,
just 27km from Port Alfred is the Gary Player designed Golf course at
the Fish River.
Port Alfred is home to the
43 Air School, where students are trained to be commercial pilots.
Port Alfred is also home to
Stenden University, where many students, both European and South
African, are trained to become fine chefs and cooks.
